We all know ‘Rap Genius’ for their extensive breakdowns of musical lyrics, which we use to understand what that artist meant, but did you know that ‘Rap Genius’ has launched a clothing line?
From lyrical analysis to a media company that are releasing a collection entitled, ‘The 1997 collection‘, that is apparently inspired by pop culture from that specific year.
Through Rap Genius’s announcement post we can see that they want to take us on a nostalgic trip back to 1997, “Let’s travel back in time to 1997, a year that felt larger than life”. They go on further to suggest that the collection was inspired by “a medley of musical moments from 20 years ago”.
From the looks from the lookbook we can gather inspiration from Fiona Apple’s controversial “This world is bullsh*t” speech at the VMAs, and another notable inspiration can be seen on one of the collection’s “Hypnotize” tee, originating from one of Biggie Smalls’ renowned songs.
‘The 1997 collection’ as a whole is a collection that is very familiar to those versed in the streetwear scene.
The 90’s are back, and Rap Genius are showing us their interpretations of it! Check below for a complete look at the collection.
