If asked to define Vetements in a word, what will that word be? For me, I’d simply say ‘brazen’. From its conception, Vetements quickly became the go-to for streetwear aficionados, releasing collection after collection of steez. Now in it it’s ninth year Demna Gvasalia, creative director at Vetements, has released a collection full of tropes that aren’t what we have come to expect from Vetements. Such as the ‘Milanesa‘, ‘German Tourist’ and the ‘stereotypical bouncer’. Talking with Vogue Demna acknowledges that the current collection is a deviation from the Vetements DNA -hoodies and underground club culture- stating that ‘a new stage has come for Vetements‘. Although taking a look at previous collections, this move by Vetements is not all that surprising. The SS 17 taught us that Vetements is not a brand to be swept up in the waves of trends, nor is it a brand that remains stagnant. Vetements is a brand that traverses the fringes of fashions, seeking new shores to venture.
However for all you street kids slowly descending into despair due to the former revelation, chill. Demna didn’t forget about you, the assemblage is stacked with oversized hoodies & outerwear, camo prints and steezy sweats.
